Information
requested on delayed allocation of EU structural funds for the
region of
Saxony
By
André Brie
The
European deputy André Brie (Left Party), in a parliamentary inquiry,
has asked the EU commission to take a position on the delayed
allocation of structural fund means for the region of
Saxony
. The budgetary and financial committee of the Saxon Parliament had
allocated, on
January 11, 2006
, expenditures above plan of about 220 million Euros. In this way,
there is supposed to be secured the pre-financing of grants from the
European Social Fund, the European Fund for regional development and
the agrarian restructuring fund. Up to now, the means from these
funds have not yet arrived on the accounts of the Free State of
Saxony.
Brie
demanded information on the general practice in handing out
structural funds to the EU member states and the corresponding
regulations for that. At the same time, he asked the commission for
information, whether
Brussels
itself had gotten into payment delay or whether the means had been
handed on with delay by the Federal government. If the delay was
attributable to
Berlin
, the deputy asked for consequences from this delay.
